Longchu Irrigation

The 9.10-km Longchu irrigation scheme is located under Drakteng gewog in Trongsa dzongkhag. Prior to the implementation of this sub-project, acute shortage of irrigation water was a resonant issue faced by Samchoeling Khatoed and Khamed villages. The villages used to source irrigation water from Lachu Yuwa which lies above their villages. However, due to climate change the volume of water in the Lachu
stream began to decrease over the years, leading to increased water shortage. In addition, several institutions in the area were also dependent on this stream for drinking water worsening the situation. The irrigation system was constructed by M/S Shambhala Infra Pvt. Ltd. at a cost of Nu. 47.98 million. The construction was started on 13th November 2023 and completed on 12th August 2024. The work was completed three (03) months ahead of the schedule
